Welcome to the Jungle

As you walk the streets of a bustling metropolis what is it that you see? Towers of steel and concrete erupting from the earth, peaking just below the clouds. Hundreds, if not thousands, of faces belonging to people you will never know and never see again. The world begins to blur, as those faces become uniform and the towers are cast in a gray hue. Everything around you has turned to gray as time ticks on and the gears of the machine rotate indefinitely. You alone perceive the monotony that plagues the land. Only you can see that man no longer cares to stand out from the crowd. But wait, what if it is not only you, but everyone who can see what has become of this gray world? Perhaps there are some who approve of the uniformity and predictable way of life, even thrive in it. What of those who have a similar view as yourself and find themselves alone in the concrete jungle? Do they conform and become gray or do they try to, once again, see the world in color? As the cliche goes, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so maybe those gray towers for one are resplendent marvels of architecture for another and all of the uniform faces are individuals that display how unique we all are in this world of gray.

  1. I’m a big fan of the title of the blog. Mainly because of the dual meaning that it has, and how by reading the title I get the sense this “place” is a big city and for whatever reason New York City comes to mind. Maybe it’s because of the picture in the post reminds of New York’s skyline, but there is enough mystery in it to keep you interested. The picture in this post instantly grabs your attention. Due to the fact that the rest of the blog is in black and white, the bright colorful image stands out immediately. The relationship between the post and the picture has a strong connection. The writing is very descriptive and gives a great sense of imagery. I can imagine the skyscrapers and the people walking by the narrator as they describe them. In this person blog “gray” represents uniformity and being part of the herd. But if you choose to be different then you see everything in “color”. But I also think its cool how this idea in the post is represented throughout the blog as well. The background picture has a lot of gray, black and white. The words fit into the same color scheme. Only the pictures represent the presence of color. I wonder if this makes me like one of the people that the narrator is talking about. This is an interesting concept, and it raises several questions. I’m left wondering if the narrator in the end likes and understands the gray culture or are they completely tired of it and want to be different. Will this concept of “gray” be found in all of the other posts? I’m intrigued by this blog and this post and should be interesting on how it continues to develop.
